Kristin Cavallari is one of the lucky ones. She didn't come to Hollywood with dreams of making it big in the business but somehow, upon moving to Orange County, Hollywood found her. In just a few short years, the 20-year-old, Colorado native has become a reality television star, an actress, a model and a celebrity spokesperson. When her parents got divorced, Kristin moved with her mom from Denver to an affluent area outside of Chicago named Barrington. When her mother remarried, she had a hard time adjusting to her new family and chose to move in with her father and brother, who were living in Laguna Beach, California. Her father initially enrolled her in a private school, but it was when she took a driver's education class at Laguna Beach High School that her life began to change dramatically. She wanted to stay at Laguna Beach High School instead of the private school, and her father reluctantly agreed. At the time, MTV was searching for a group of teens to follow around as they made the transition from high school to college. They focused on Laguna Beach High School, and Kristin was offered a role in what soon became a hit reality television series for MTV entitled Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. The show centered around Kristin and seven other teens, including Lauren Conrad, Jason Wahler and Kristin's boyfriend at the time, Stephen Colletti, and it was an instant success with MTV's audience. Kristin soon became a recognizable face and it opened new doors for her in Hollywood. She moved to Los Angeles after the show and enrolled in Loyola Marymount University, but a college education was not in the cards for her. She found herself being offered a variety of roles and decided to take advantage of the opportunities coming her way. In February 2006 she was a host on UPN's short-lived show, Get This Party Started. Soon after the show's cancellation, she had a guest-starring role in UPN's television series Veronica Mars, and was showcased in talented singer/guitarist, Teddy Geiger's, video for his hit song For You I Will (Confidence). She has also completed movie roles for Fingerprints with Lou Diamond Phillips and Josh Henderson (to be released on DVD in 2008), and the major motion picture, Spring Breakdown, with gifted comedians, Will Arnett and Amy Poehler (due in theaters in 2008). Kristin isn't limiting herself to just film and television, however. She also embarked on a modeling career and was featured on the cover of Seventeen as well as inside the pages of other magazines like Teen People, Rolling Stone, Blender and GQ. In 2006 Maxim magazine made her #23 on its annual Hot 100 List. In addition to magazine coverage, Kristin has endorsement deals with Bongo, PETA and Until There's a Cure, an organization that sells bracelets to benefit AIDS research and awareness. Kristin is showing no signs of stopping as her career moves full speed ahead. She recently was featured as a guest star in CBS' successful new television series, Cane. She is currently shooting the movie Green Flash alongside David Charvet and her live in boyfriend, Nick Zano, who is best known for his role in Amanda Bynes' hit comedy sitcom, What I like About You. She is also working as a spokesperson for We Are Ellis Island, an organization dedicated to restoring historic buildings on the famous Ellis Island. In addition, as if all that was not enough, she returned to her reality television roots when she shot a documentary on her Lasik surgery adventure. The multi part documentary begins at her initial decision to get the surgery and concludes with her vacation in the Bahamas, which she took to celebrate her improved eyesight. This hard working woman may have gotten a lucky break in Hollywood, but she has more than proven herself by having the 20/20 vision (and not just from the eye surgery) that is necessary to make the most of the opportunities that have come her way. She will surely be around for years to come.
