We’re always looking for a new indie band to follow, right?? Indie pop/rock group Kingsfoil just released a new single, and I’m willing to bet you’ll hear it soon whether you have plans to or not. The song, entitled “What Your Mother Taught You”, is the first available from the group’s fourth album and EP release, with plans to release the rest of the album soon.
Members include lead singer Jordan Davis, guitarist Tristan Martin, bassist Tim Warren, and drummer Frankie Muniz. Yes, "Malcom in the Middle" star Frankie Muniz. The band recently filled their drummer void (who had made a career change) with the multi-talented actor/musician/racecar driver Muniz. Muniz isn’t new to music; he had most recently been playing drums with the Arizona band You Hang Up until their dissolution. The bands had shared a manager, one had an opening, and suddenly Frankie is auditing for Kingsfoil and finding a perfect fit. The York County, Pennsylvania-based group has drawn comparisons to OneRepublic and The Fray and has been enjoying their growing fan base as they impress at live performances.
“What Your Mother Taught You” sounds radio-perfect, and the song was, in fact, recently previewed on the "Johnjay and Rich" radio show when Muniz co-hosted at the studio close to home in Phoenix. After listening to the newly-released iTunes snippet a couple times, I purchased. The song is engaging from beginning to end; part of the time it’s just what you’d expect from an indie rock song, and then the chorus comes around and it turns suddenly and thrillingly poppy (dance-on-my-chair poppy). There are lines that become instant sing-alongs, such as: “Hip-hip-hip-hip-hip, you’re a hypocrite, baby” in Davis’s sweet voice that comes in over just the right amount of commanding guitar action. Most importantly, I’m eager to hear more.
Follow the band on Twitter @kingsfoil or “Like" them on Facebook to find out about upcoming shows and the impending new album release.
