Demi Moore, Natalie Portman, and Anne Hathaway did it for film roles. Britney Spears did it because... well, we're still not sure why.

 

Kellie Pickler did it for friendship. She has joined the short list of female celebs who have completely shaved her head, but her cause was much greater and more crucial than a creative endeavor. Her BFF, Summer Holt Miller, is currently suffering from breast cancer and will soon be starting chemotherapy. As most chemo patients know, losing their hair is inevitable. So, Summer decided to make a pre-emptive strike, as it were, by shaving off her locks before the chemo got to it.

 

She explains: “I was told that it was mentally much easier to do it this way than to wake up with my hair on my pillow.” Fair enough!

 

And she wasn’t alone. In a display of solidarity and support for her friend, Pickler, known for her country-fied, flowing blonde locks, took the buzzer to her own skull. In an industry where physical appearance and vanity dominate, Kellie has boldly stood up and made it clear where her priorities lie, and we admire her tremendously for it.

 

It also doesn’t hurt that she totally pulls it off!

 

Kellie says that she hopes her actions will inspire women to get regular mammograms to prevent them from having to go through what Summer is going through. So, you heard her, ladies – check yo’self before cancer wrecks yo’self!
