Celebrity lives often seem to be in free-fall. From romantic roller coasters and domestic scandal, to drugs, alcohol, religious dabbling, and lifestyle experimentation, the heat of the ever present camera lens intensifies the sadness, the joy, and the drama. Now the lens is zooming in one step further, taking Katy Perry from the realm of celebrity reality into the realm of total fan control, as the latest character to appear in the new PC game, The Sims 3: Showtime.
Following a rough split from British comedian Russell Brand, Katy is sure to be looking for hyper-real reinvention, and slipping behind a glimmering LCD screen seems just the ticket. Fronting the global advertising campaign for the Sims, she said, "I love how you're able to play out different stories through your Sims characters -- giving them different careers and watching them succeed... I always like to think of myself as a cartoon, and now I'm a Sim!'
Katy is working closely with The Sims Studio to create clothing, accessories, hairstyles, furniture, and props for the game, which is to be released in March this year. With Katy's pin-up girl aesthetic entering the world of contemporary simulation, expect young female fans and older computer nerds alike to be holed up with their laptops, living out their teenage dreams.
