In 2003, Jay-Z declared his retirement after the completion of the Black Album. The success of Jay's last album put fans in disbelief that Kingdom Come could ever live up to his previous triumph. The anticipation and hype behind the album grew as the release date approached, and after it dropped the hip hop world was taken by storm.Hip Hop has relied on violence, cars, money, and sex to survive in the music industry but lately it hasn't been enough. The rap industry is dying out and other genres are eating up the spotlight. Jay-Z stepped out of the commercial, hard core, rap game and went for a challenge. At his attempt to revive hip hop, critics knock Jay-Z for going soft.It has been declared, Kingdom Come is by far the worst album that Jay-Z has released. But the question is do we really care? We take our hands and throw up the dynasty sign, we spit his lyrics like our own, and rock his label as if he signed us himself. It is inevitable. Jay-Z is a legendary hip hop mogul with the rap game twisted around his finger.Jay-Z states, I am the Mike Jordan of recordin, and essentially, he is right. Similar to Jordan, Jay-Z has emerged from retirement and changed the game. Kingdom Come is the new era of hip hop. Being older within the industry, has given Jay-Z an advantage. He has brought growth and maturity to a genre that has focused on dissing and pretension. It is factual that Jay-Z can do no wrong and his fans will adore him through thick and thin. Kingdom Come will rise to the top of the charts and critics will choke on their words of hatred. by Danielle Terrell
