Comedian Jamie Kaler wins at funny. The "My Boys" star gave me an interview that pulls back the curtain on what REALLY happens behind the scenes in Hollywood! "We always pull practical jokes on set," Jamie tells me. "As actors on a sitcom, it is really our responsibility to prank each other. One time the rest of the cast knocked me out with chloroform, wrapped me up like a bag of golf clubs, and shipped me to Belize. We all laughed... when I got home 6 days later. It was a great joke but I hope the feeling in my left arm comes back." Besides the on-set camaraderie and playfulness, Jamie most enjoys not having to do things for himself. "My favorite part of making 'My Boys' is craft services," he says. "I like it when people say, "˜Here is food. Would you like to eat some?' It's delicious and free. I like both of those. Sometimes I bring Tupperware and fill it up at work so that I have food at home. When we wrapped this season, it took me a week to figure out that no one was going to be bringing me food. I got very hungry. I also like that people dress me on set. As an actor I have difficulty remembering what I'm supposed to say, let alone dressing myself." He also experiences freedom to create on set. "I ad-lib it all," he cheekily reveals. "I don't think I'm supposed to, but the problem is I played collegiate soccer and have no short term memory. So what I do is say whatever I feel like that day, then the writers add some dialogue for the other actors to say that might justify what I said. As you can tell, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. We need more writers." This season, his character really gets into the action, he says. "Mike has 24 hours to stop an international terrorist ring from destroying the American Dream. Each hour will be aired separately and will showcase my ability to ass-kick any dude who gets in my way. Of course, this will be interspersed with me drinking beers and hooking up with ladies. Wait a minute, am I thinking of the right show?" Jamie might be confused due to his extensive "research," which amounts to hours and hours of brain-melting television. "I watch way too much TV," he admits. "The best thing about being an actor is that now I can justify it as "˜research.' So when I watch 'Tosh.0,' it might be because it's funny or I may be honing my craft as an actor to portray an "˜idiot on the Internet who gets hit in the balls by his own skateboard.'" Even with success, there are down times. Jamie says he defeats his bad days by turning to a true friend; the Internet! "Whenever I'm having a bad day, I'll Google some of the bullies from my high school," he says. "I'll flip through their Facebook photos and see how crappy their life turned out and it makes me feel better. Luckily, none of them have succeeded at anything they've tried. If they ever did, I may have to use another technique. Maybe one of those posters where the cat on the tree says, 'Hang in there, baby!' Those always cheer me up."
