He was raised a Southern gentleman, but Hollywood was where he was meant to be. James Denton was born in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, but he grew up far from Wisteria Lane.James attended the University of Tennessee where he earned a degree in television/journalism. Early on, his interests were in sports and advertising, yet, he eventually followed in his father's footsteps and tried his hand at acting at the age of 23. He now plays hunky plumber Mike Delfinoù on Desperate Housewives.

James spent four years selling advertising for two radio stations in Nashville, however never really felt a sense of fulfillment with his position. One day, he decided to pack up and move to Chicago to pursue acting full-time. After James' epiphany, the first role he landed in Chicago was Stanleyù in A Street Car Named Desireù. Soon after his acting debut James landed a steady string of roles in various plays and accumulated a list of achievements, which included being nominated for a Best Actor Joseph Jefferson Awardù (Chicago's only theatre award).With tremendous theatre experience under his belt, James ventured out to California and moved on to be a regular on shows including, The Pretender, The Drew Carey Show, JAG and Reba. He has also guest starred on Ally McBeal and The West Wing.In 2004, Desperate Housewivesù was announced at ABC upfronts in New York. On its debut in October, 2004, the show gained incredible ratings and its season was picked up before the end of the month. After a mere three months of the first season, James was included in People Magazine's Sexiest Men Aliveù issue.James is currently married, has two beautiful children and lives in Southern California. He is an avid sports fan and has even invested in the Golden Baseball League Team, The Fullerton Flyers.In February of 2005, James was the recipient of Oprah Winfrey's "Your Wildest Dream" and was taken from Fort Myers, Florida to City of Palms, Florida to spend an afternoon training with the Boston Red Sox baseball team at their spring training facility, after which Fort Myers Mayor Jim Humphrey gave him the key to the city. So, you can say that this man pursued his passion and never gave up his love for baseball.Denton is a man after your heart. He is a proud family-man, supports rescue efforts by taking strays off the streets and finding good homes for them, is heavily involved in the big brother/mentor program, and continues to support a handful of other charities, as well.Many would agree that his Southern charm, warm personality and fetching looks would capture anyones' hearts. Yet, since he is married, I guess we'll all have to settle for tuning in each week to watch this fine man's acting abilities.James' character, Mike Delfino has women around the world swooning over him and wishing for faulty toilets and rusty pipes.
