The world is divided when it comes to ghost, ghouls, and the paranormal; i.e. things that go bump in the night. For some, its a no-go area, whilst others manage to get some sort of sick pleasure witnessing a young girl being hurtled across the room by an unknown force. 2011 provided us "die hards" with chilling films such as I Spit on Your Grave, Fright Night, and the third installment of the hugely successful Paranormal Activity series. 2012 has a blood-curling line-up to follow:
The New Year looks to bring with it the promising The Devil Inside, starring Latina actress Fernanda Andrade. The movie, which is out January 6, depicts Isabella (played by Andrade) traveling to Italy to visit her mother who's locked away in a hospital for the criminally insane. She inevitably faces four evil demons possessing her mother in her bid to find out what happened the night her mother brutally murdered three people, 20 years prior.
The following month of February sees the release of The InnKeepers on the 3rd. Years of haunted hotel "stories" are put to the test by Inn's employees, Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy). Soon enough, they begin to experience events that seem more than just another haunted tale... The InnKeeper will follow tough competition merely a week later from The Woman in Black. Harry Potter alumnus Daniel Radcliffe continues to prove his acting credibility as the lawyer, Arthur. The plot involves him traveling to a small village to sort out the legal affairs of a recently deceased woman. Whilst there, he learns of an evil ghost menacing the locals.
Critically acclaimed rising actress Elizabeth Olsen plays Sarah in the film Silent House, to be released on March 9. This movie boasts of being filmed in one shot and impeccable directing by Chris Kentis and Laura Lau. The latter part of the year sees the releases of The Apparition and The Possession. In The Apparition, Twilight actress Ashley Greene, along with Sebastian Stan, star as a young couple who discover their home is haunted by a presence configured by a prior university parapsychology experiment. They call upon supernatural expert, Patrick (played by another Harry Potter graduate, Tom Felton), to help save them. Whilst over in The Possession, an estranged couple (Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffrey Dean Morgan) attempt to work together in order to get rid of an ancient curse that is placed upon their daughter.
Hopefully 2012 will raise the bar for terrifying movies. Some of us enjoy adrenaline rushes in terms of extreme sports or music. For the rest of us, all we need is a good old "scary movie" that will get our pulses racing!
