| Hollywood Gives Back |
|
If there's one thing Young Hollywood loves, it's a good deed. You can always count on the industry to get involved, raise awareness, donate time and give money to a deserving cause. As the holiday season approaches, celebs like the Jonas Brothers have already started pitching out that Christmas cheer with the Salvation Army Kettle drive. The bros also have a foundation in their name that gives to other causes as well. Natch, little ol' you and me can help out even if we're not international recording superstars. There are many ways to reach out. In fact you might be surprised how easy it is to get involved if you just express an interest. For example, it's pretty easy to ask an outfit if they're willing to donate some items for an auction, as so many events feature some type of auction (often silent) as part of the proceedings. Recently a buddy of mine named Michael Fairman used his many years in the world of soaps to call together friends, daytime drama stars and industry folk alike for a night to benefit AIDS Walk Los Angeles and to support the work of AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). I thought it was really inspiring to see someone I know put together an event for such a good cause. Soaps in the City was a great event and has given me the notion to spread the word to action in these coming months and give however you can. Simply being there, supporting the cause, any cause that you believe in, is so much more than nothing at all. Word.
