Designer Jennifer Hovas and I met up to talk about my favorite fashion go-to; hats, sweetie darling. Contraband is headgear to the stars.

“I kind of fell into designing,” Jen tells me. “I met someone who was in the sourcing field of hats and was kind of taken under his wing and voila my creative juices began flowing and I thought ‘I can do this.’”

Most of the designs, from fancy fedoras to trucker hats and military-inspired caps, are intended for guys and girls. “Most of the styles are unisex,” she says. “There is a new line for fall which should be out late July.”

Like Donna Summer, Jen is working hard for it honey! “We just did the Sundance festival with island def jam records and I tour the states doing trade shows and shopping events.”

Following her passion full-time, she’s even had stores pick up the label. “Most of the boutiques that carry my line are in Miami or Texas,” she adds. “It’s easiest to purchase online www.mycontraband.com.”

“Hopefully this year we will pull together a contraband party of some sort,” she says. With fans like Tommy Lee, Wyclef Jean, Paulina Rubio, Christie Brinkley {pictured with Jen} and Jamie Foxx, the guest list for that party will be hot!

As we part, she even gives me a tip to share with all you Hollywood peeps: “A company called Shecky's puts on a shopping event throughout the US. Their L.A. event is May 20-21; that would be a great opportunity for L.A. to get their hands on contraband.”
