After being hyped for many years as the next evolution of television, High Definition is finally becoming a standard. HD offers a native resolution of at least 720 lines of resolution. In contrast, your regular TV set offers only 480 maximum lines of resolution. This means that HD makes your favorite television shows incredibly more detailed, vibrant, and clear. Although the technology has been around awhile, it's officially hot right now. Why? They're finally becoming affordable. Isn't this really the bottom line? Sure, high end Plasmas can still break your bank account, but there are many more ways to get the HD experience. Traditional CRT and Rear Projections units may not fit your wall, but they will fit your wallet. Movies are now in HD. Whether you opt for Blu-ray or HD DVD, you can finally watch DVDs with the same clarity that digital cable has provided for a long time now. In fact, these new video players offer six times the resolution of an average DVD player. Although decks are still expensive, they're prices are falling every day. But you might want to wait to find out which standard wins out in the inevitable war that breaking out. So far Blu-ray has gained the most momentum. Video games are now in HD. Microsoft's X-Box 360 and Sony's Playstation 3 now offer HD in their next generation gaming consoles. As more and more game developers exploit the new technology, expect massive leaps in graphic sophistication. The PS3 also doubles as a Blu-ray DVD player that is forcing Microsoft to attempt to catch up by offering a competing HD DVD player as an option on its unit. As a result, both unites are ridiculously expensive as they compete to be the premiere high-end gaming system. Your favorite television shows are in HD. Have you seen the island in Lost in HD? How about the ticking clock in 24? The immersive cinema experience is now available with most of y our favorite shows. It uses to be Jay Leno was the only person whose flaws were magnified in HD, but now almost everyone is getting in to the game. After watching shows in their alternate HD format, you will never want to go back the originals, which will seem downright grainy and fuzzy in comparison.
