Halloween Horror

People love a good scare. Roller coasters, even surprise parties. The rush is fun as long as it's not an actual life-shattering dramatic moment. Those aren't usually fun, but very jolting nonetheless.

A good scare gets the blood pumping, snaps the mind to high alert and administers an adrenaline high that's worth an early grey hair or two.

In the theater setting, it's also a good time to latch on to your date. They think they're protecting you, allowing you to fawn over how good they smell.

With Freddy Krueger creeping back into theaters - along with other revised horror classics like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween, what better way to pay homage to the horror heroes than a countdown of the best of the genre?

Nightmare on Elm Street: Insomnia inducing.

Halloween: No trick-or-treat.

The Scream Series: Reinvented the game.

Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead: Everything a good horror movie should be; scary, gory, oddly funny, and with likable characters worth rooting for.

The Hills Have Eyes: Breaks the mold in many ways, including an open location set during the day.

28 Days Later: A zombie movie about the human condition.

Saw: Will the nightmare ever end?

Drag Me to Hell: A true terror.

Final Destination: Some of the most creative death scenes in movie history!

The Lost Boys: Before Twilight, these hot vampires ruled the night!

Dead Alive: One of the goriest, and darkly funny, horror movies ever.

Evil Dead: Camp horror classic.

May: The only female killer on the list, an underrated master work.

The Omen: Classic end of the world trilogy, worth renting.

Child's Play: A child's toy that kills sounds funny, until it stabs you in the eye.

The Descent: Well-liked for its all-female cast and character development.

The Shining: Classic Jack.

Alien: Widely considered sci-fi but still hella scary.

Jaws: Another non-typical frightener, yet the original holds up to a true slash thriller.

Psycho: You may never stay at a motel again!

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: Both the original and remake worth watching, even creepier is a Google search of Ed Gaines, the monstrous myth the movies are based on.

Hellraiser: Horror meets high art.

Get your fright on with these classics, sure to make you want to sleep with the lights on!
