Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: A Look at Rihanna's Many 'Dos

Rihanna has always been a rebel at whatever she does, and now, with the addition of her becoming a feature film star for her role in Battleship, she can officially solidify her status as being one of pop culture biggest and best bad-asses.

One of the most important parts of RiRi’s famous kick-butt persona is her iconic sense of style and, more prominently, the way she always changes up and rocks a new hairdo.

Let’s take a look a look back at Rihanna’s hair evolution, and she just how far she has gone style-wise to become the mega-star she is today.

2005-2006
Back when Rihanna was first coming into her own and breaking out onto the music scene, she donned more natural-looking brunette hairstyles that made her look like the perfect pop-star-next-door (who also happened to be an amazingly gorgeous and exotic songbird from Barbados). The most girly she’s ever looked since her debut, the once-frequent curls she was known for complemented the sweet and innocent look she was going for during the releases of her first two albums, Music of the Sun and A Girl Like Me.

2007
With the release of her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, came the release of Rihanna’s inner rebel, and with that being said, she changed her mane from long, flowing, and brunette to the much talked about asymmetrical black bob. Many designers also started to look to Rihanna as a very fashion-forward muse during this era, which later translated into the modern style icon she is now.

2008-2009
Rihanna shaved off most of her hair and sported a Mohawk, creating a more edgy and modern look to accompany her most edgy and intimate album to date, Rated R. Her pretty face more than complemented the many different ways she made the Mohawk work (blonde streaks, brushed to the side, etc.), and people started to see RiRi as the badass singer who doesn’t care what people think.

2010-2011
After changing her hair more than a couple of times, people were starting to wonder what Rihanna would do next. After having your hair in a Mohawk, is there anything else you could really do? But then came the notorious Rihanna Red. Drastically changing from dark and edgy to girly and lively, the way Rihanna rocked bright red hair was the perfect way to supplement the new, more vibrant and girly sound she was achieving in her fifth album, Loud.  What girl didn’t dye their hair red after RiRi did?

2012 (Present day)
This year isn’t even half way done, and RiRi has already had a few different hairstyles. Towards the end of 2011, she went back to more natural-looking loose brunette curls. This look happened to coincide with her Talk That Talk album release.

Then, to some great results, she went blonde -- channeling her inner Marilyn and Farrah for her Grammy awards performance, where she was nominated for Album of the Year.

Present day, our favorite island songstress now sports a jet-black, partially-shaven, flowing mane (top of page). This new head-turning look accompanies the idea that RiRi is now a bona fide rough-and-tumble movie star in Battleship.

Whatever hairstyle she is showing off to her many fans and critics all over the world, it is still without a doubt that Rihanna is one of the most stylish and beautiful stars of our modern music era.

What’s your favorite RiRi hairdo?
