Going Electropop with La Roux

Here comes that sound: peeping a fresh new British import with the synth-heavy electropop of La Roux!

The UK duo is singer Elly Jackson and producer Ben Langmaid. The two have set the music world abuzz with their debut single Quicksand, as well as their second release, In For The Kill. Get a taste of their flavor on myspace.

They recently opened up for Lily Allen on the UK leg of her tour and once again my buddy MK creator of popbytes came through with a hot ticket when they hit the states.

The scene was set at one of our favorite Hollywood landmarks The Roxy, where people were lined up and awaiting the band. It's always nice to slip by the line with my VIP wrist bracelet, a true perk of the pros!

Once settled in our area, we are actually too far away to fully enjoy the show. Maybe VIP isn't all that. The Roxy isn't a huge venue, or even a very big one, but it's always better to stand up front where all the action is. The show is off the hook! Killer vocals by Elly.

The singer walks the line with an androgynous look, funky fashion and a strong individualistic attitude. Appropriately, her influences include David Bowie, Annie Lennox, and Prince. She also co-designs her own clothing with a friend, making her frocks uniquely Elly.

A Rose By Any Other Name: The group discovered their title in a book of baby names, La Roux being French for red-haired one.
