Young Hollywood is all about giving back, from promoting good causes like Tails for Whales to supporting The Art of Elysium and getting political with theNoH8 campaign. Now, one-million people will get a free day at Disneyland just for performing volunteer service. We're ready to ride that monorail!
Disney Parks made the announcement to magically inspire interested parties to "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day."
Leave it to the mouse; this is the first time something like this has ever been done! The program works with participating organizations that celebrate the spirit of volunteer service. The park is working with HandsOn Network, the nation's largest volunteer network with 250 on-the-ground volunteer action centers that connect volunteers to more than 70,000 nonprofit agencies in need of help.
Disney knows how to go big.
Natch, people celebrate major events like birthdays, anniversaries and reunions at the park: "In 2010, we want to recognize and add one more reason for celebration - the contributions people make to their communities every day," says Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We want to inspire 1 million volunteers, people who will invest time and energy to make their own communities and neighborhoods a better place."
"Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" officially kicks off January 1, 2010 and runs all year. Sign up at the Disney website to learn more and register now. Wes Ferguson is a lifestyle expert and entertainment writer living out the Young Hollywood dream in beautiful Westside Los Angeles.
