Jay-Z, Ludacris and Lil' Wayne are all said to be real-life sneakerheads.
Sneakerheads: Unabashed fanatics who usually own hundreds of pairs of sports shoes. Generally speaking, an addiction is a problem. In this case we'll make an exception.
Somewhere between healthy fanatic and obsessively compulsive shopaholic, sneakerheads don't just buy shoes because they're cute. In fact, they don't even wear most of them. These shoes are prized possessions, and worth hundreds - sometimes thousands - of dollars.
I personally have a slight Puma addiction, because they fit my feet perfectly. Although I have about 20 pairs, it pales in comparison to true fanatics.
Sneakerheads are collectors, so they have special knowledge of certain types of shoes. They know stats, design details and most importantly, manufacture numbers. Like baseball cards and Bazooka Joe gum wrappers, the rarer the item, the more valuable they become. Collections consist of vintage and collectable sneakers from classic Chuck Taylor's to custom Nikes.
Also like other collectables, there are limited-edition shoes, rare OGs and exclusive one-of-a-kind sneakers. True story!
The world of shoes is no shallow pool, it is vast and varied. The only problem you may encounter, as I did upon discovering Creative Recreation, is deciding which pair to get first!
