Way back in May, we told y’all about a new Tarzan movie starring Kellan Lutz and then immediately burst your bubble by revealing that he wouldn’t actually be in it per se – the film is going to motion-capture animation, and Kellan would merely be serving as a physical reference (and voice) for the character.
Well, Constantin Film, the German production company spearheading the project, and been quite busy these last few months, and now they have something to show for their efforts! A new teaser has surfaced online (albeit in German) giving us a hint at what to expect.
Upon viewing, I was a bit torn. It’s good… but it’s not spectacular. It’s clearly not real-life, and yet it’s not nearly as off-putting as, say, Polar Express. I admit it’s probably some of the best mo-cap I’ve seen, short of Avatar. The hair in particular (a common bain for CGI animators) is spot-on, so that’s a plus. They eyes don’t seem as dead as they tend to for mo-cap characters…
So, to sum up: Not as good as Avatar, but not as terrifying as Polar Express.
What do YOU guys think? Check out the teaser below and let us know!
Tarzan will be released in Germany on July 25, 2013. No word yet on an American release date... stay tuned!
