First Official (Epic) Trailer for 'The Dark Knight Rises'!

The official trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has been released. This is the third and last film Christopher Nolan is bringing to us from the Batman series, so we would expect something sensational. The trailer itself claims an "epic conclusion".

So what can we expect to get out of the movie? For one thing, we see Anne Hathaway playing Selina Kyle/Catwoman, in the present scenario of whispering warnings to Bruce Wayne at a masquerade ball. Co-star Christian Bale has claimed she has the “hardest job” in the film following in the footsteps of actresses Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry, who have also played the character. To be likeable, she has to bring something fresh to the character while remaining engaging (plus look good in a catsuit), and she seems to have it covered.

The trailer also shows us Alfred (played by Michael Caine) regretting that he hasn’t protected Bruce. Too late? Where we do see Christian Bale, he appears to us mostly in Bruce Wayne form... with very few lines. Hidden story line? A hook for Bale fans wanting more? Let’s see some more Batman!

One of the best parts of the trailer is the cataclysmic touchdown... a player (Hines Ward, in fact, in an uncredited cameo!) runs across the football field obliviously as everyone and everything behind him is demolished. The sound dips out and leaves the focus on the effects, which look amazing and can only be even more dramatic in 3D. It’s a particularly effective scene because of the circumstances; tie back to the beginning of the trailer where a child opens the game singing "The Star Spangled Banner" and it ignites a sense of mass danger at a trusted national pastime. Intense!

Bottom line is that we can expect plenty of action in this next Batman installment with a dependable cast. The film stars Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, Juno Temple, and Matthew Modine.
