"You had my curiousity; now you have my attention."
If I were a studio executive and Quentin Tarantino walked into my office and spoke only these words: “19th century slave epic shot like a ‘70s blaxploitation pic with Leo DiCaprio as the villain”, I would have given him ALL the money.
Fortunately, the Weinsteins saved me the pocket change and got the film Django Unchained made instead, and if the first trailer is any indication, this looks like it will be more of Tarantino’s patented crack for the eyes – not something you are necessarily comfortable getting into, but you just can’t help yourself.
As I’ve told you guys before, I am hella excited to see this new flick when it finally comes out on Christmas… most of that riding on the idea of little Lenny DiCaprio playing the bad guy. It doesn’t hurt that Christoph Waltz is in this too – the man Waltzed away with Inglourious Basterds, after all… and an Oscar. Now that we finally get to see some of the finished product, it’s clear that this is going to be one of those orgies-for-the-senses that Tarantino is so brilliant at. In an article for another DiCaprio flick coming out, The Great Gatsby, I mentioned my love for anachronistic music in period pieces. Here we have another great example of that – fugitive slave Jamie Foxx strutting around the pre-Civil War South to the tunes of Johnny Cash and James Brown. Say no more. Tickets bought.
Check out the first trailer for Django Unchained, starring Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kerry Washington, below:
Django Unchained opens December 25.
