{On filming Leap Year on location in Ireland}
AA: I really enjoyed it, the country and the culture and the people were amazing. The weather was a little rough but on the days that it was sunny and clear, it was like a dream.
YH: I caught your appearance on David Letterman the other night and I know you were talking about drinking Guiness there"¦
AA: Oh yeah, everyone had always said that the Guiness was amazing in Ireland and it's absolutely true. I don't know what it is, it tastes completely different. At the end of a very cold, hard day where I would be falling down the hill all day, I would have a warm bath and a Guiness.
YH: Oh that sounds lovely.
AA: It was really lovely. Not something I recommend for every night but it's definitely a nice a treat.
YH: Okay well I'll keep that in mind. I've never been to Ireland, I'd love to go someday. Did you find that there were a lot of people there with your complexion and coloring, light eyes, and red hair? Or is that just something we identify as an Irish look from popular culture?
AA: No, that's absolutely true! Typically you don't see many redheads but there it's like one in every three people have my complexion.
YH: So you didn't stick out?
AA: Not even a little bit.
{On how she realized her dreams to become an actress}
AA: It's really been an amazing ride. Drop Dead Gorgeous was my first film that I ever did and I'd sort of dreamed about having a career but I never really considered it because it seemed so foreign to me. Doing that film really opened the world of possibility to me; when I moved out to L.A., it was a long evolution of building my confidence and trusting myself to do more dramatic parts. And I look forward to doing even more in the future if I have the opportunity to because I really do love delving into deeper depths"¦ But I also have still really enjoyed doing comedy. I can't seem to let that go either.
YH: So what was that defining moment when you decided you were going to move to L.A. to pursue acting? Was it during the filming of Drop Dead Gorgeous?
AA: It was, actually. I think working on that made me realize that"¦ Of course I never thought I'd be where I am today or have the opportunities that I have, but at least it opened the door for me and made me see the possibility.
{On her guest role in "The Office"}
AA: "The [U.K.] Office" is one of my fiancé's favorite shows and when [the U.S. version] started to air, we watched it, and when I auditioned and then got [the part] , we were so excited! I keep telling them I want to come back but they haven't figured out a way to sneak Katie back. I was thinking at [Pam and Jim's] wedding she could be somebody's date.
YH: Oh yeah! That would've been really funny!
AA: Yeah it would've been great! I know John Krasinski and I'm constantly coming up with plotlines to bring myself back.
YH: Well I'm sure a lot of people would love to see Katie pop up again. And, can I just ask you, are the actors anything like their characters in real life? I've always wondered that, because I know for some of them, their character's names are their real names.
AA: Some of them are and some of them aren't. A lot of them"¦ [pause] they do use their real names, don't they?! I just thought about that, I don't know why I hadn't thought of that before"¦ And also a lot of the writers are also actors on the show.
YH: Right, and a lot of the producing and I think some directing is done by the actors.
AA: Exactly! Which I thought was awesome because it's so hands-on and everybody's a part of it. It's just really cool. They bring a lot of fun to their characters.
