Jane Lynch at the 2010 Emmy Awards

Unless you're living under a rock, you are aware that the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards happened last night.

And if you are a faithful YH reader, you also know that, when the nominees were announced back in July, I broke it down for y'all and made some (rather vague) predictions. Now the time has come for me to revisit my thoughts from two months ago and face the music. Accompany me on this journey of shame, won't you, gentle readers?

Cast of "Modern Family" at the 2010 Emmy Awards

The Big Winner of the night proved to be newcomer "Modern Family," and I couldn't be happier, not just on a personal level (I ADORE that show) but on a professional one as well. But let's face it -- this one is pure math. Half the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series noms were from "Modern Family," so it wasn't just a matter of if one of them would win, but which one! I personally would have liked to have seen Ty Burrell nab it, but I'm extremely pleased nonetheless that the honor went to his co-star Eric Stonestreet! Congrats! Sofia Vergara didn't win in her category, but the show as whole won Outstanding Comedy Series (knocking "The Office" and "30 Rock" off their pedestals).

Incidentally, Vergara made a public bet that if the show won Best Series, she would run naked up Sunset Boulevard. I am not too proud to say... PICS PLEASE!

I mean, seriously... who wouldn't??

Ahem, moving on...

The biggest surprise of the evening, as far as I am concerned, was the complete and utter SHUT-OUT that "Lost" received. Denied in all categories -- writing, directing, Supporting Actor, Lead Actor, and Drama series -- it seems clear that the divisive feelings toward the final season were perhaps the nail in this show's Emmy coffin. Instead, Outstanding Drama Series went to safe favorite "Mad Men," which has now won in this category three years in a row. Interesting, considering none of the nominated actors won in their categories either...

Anyone else notice that shocked hush that fell over the audience when "The Daily Show" won for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series? That's because everyone and their great-uncle was expecting the trophy to go to beleaguered Conan O'Brien and his brief stint with "The Tonight Show." It seemed a done deal. Yet, "The Daily Show" was just as deserving, so we can't begrudge them too much!

Another slight shocker was the lack of hardware for "Glee." I called Jane Lynch's win for Supporting Actress (woo-hoo!), but I was mistaken in my prediction that her co-star, Lea Michele, would join her in Emmy glory. Instead, Lead Actress in a Comedy Series went to "Nurse Jackie" star, Edie Falco. Wow!

"Breaking Bad" cleaned up the in the dramatic actor categories, with Bryan Cranston winning his THIRD STRAIGHT Emmy for his lead role, and co-star Aaron Paul taking home the gold for Supporting Actor. Seems rather clear at this point that, as long as this show is on the air, Emmys might as well just come pre-inscribed with Cranston's name on it! Quite an accomplishment indeed.

But it wasn't all about winners and, er, not-winners last night. The evening's host, Jimmy Fallon, worked his adorable little butt off throughout the entire broadcast to keep the audience alert and engaged. The show started off with a bang with a partly pre-recorded send up "Glee" featuring the likes of Fallon, Tiny Fey, Jon Hamm, Betty White, Joel McHale, and several "Glee" castmembers tearing it up to Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." EPIC! Fallon also provided a medley in ode to three shows that ended this year, portraying a different music legend for each -- Elton John for "24," Boyz II Men for "Law & Order," and Green Day for "Lost." Very clever! And who can forget the amazing "Modern Family" skit which saw a little well-timed drop-in from Bob Hope Humanitarian Award recipient, George Clooney? Classic!

Overall, this was a really fantastic show. Even if I don't agree with some of the winners (seriously, NOTHING for "Lost"??), there were a lot of great moments and memories to be had.
