ABC’s hit drama “The Bachelorette” is just two weeks away, and Emily Maynard will have been given a second chance at finding true love after receiving a proposal from Brad Womack during his season of “The Bachelor” and then breaking off their engagement shortly after. In case you missed out on Womack’s season, here are a few things you should know about America’s newest Bachelorette:
Maynard is a single mom to 6-year-old daughter Ricki. The blonde beauty lost her fiancé in a plane crash in 2004 and found out she was pregnant with their first child just days after his death. Maynard will be “The Bachelorette"'s first single mom.
After splitting with Womack, reports swirled that ABC was trying to get Maynard to return to the show for another shot at love. Maynard announced she had no interest in returning to the reality show, tweeting, “I don’t want to be the Bachelorette.” So what exactly changed her mind? "I know it can work," she told People Magazine. "I fell in love the first time and no, we didn't end up getting married, but in the end just falling in love, for me, is a success."
Producers of the show have bent over backwards to accommodate America’s Sweetheart, even moving production from sunny California to Maynard’s hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.
That’s not the only perk in store for Maynard this season; a source close to the 26-year-old tells In Touch that Maynard is receiving $250,000 to do the show, and if that’s the case, that’s more than any other contestant in the show’s history.
According to an ABC press release, “she is looking for someone who makes her laugh, doesn’t take himself too seriously, and can be her best friend.” The show’s host Chris Harrison said not to let Ms. Maynard’s good looks and charm fool you. “She’s a pistol,” Harrison announced on “Live with Kelly,” adding, ”she’s sweet until the time she’s not.”
