Emile Hirsch has been called one of the most talented actors of his generation by both his peers and critics. The 22 year old, native of California has been flying below the radar, steadily making a name in the business through his work in independent and major motion pictures. Young Hollywood believes that his name will soon be on everyone's lips.He was most recently seen in the movie, Into the Wild,ù in which he plays the starring role. The film is written and directed by Sean Penn and is based on a book by Jon Krakauer which tells the true story of Christopher McCandless, who abandoned all material possessions and hitchhiked and worked his way across the United States on a quest to live in the wilds of Alaska. Emile steals every scene of the movie and his powerful performance instantly generated Oscar buzz. Sadly, he was robbed of the actual nomination. However, he was nominated for a SAG Award for his role in the film.Emile started in the business with several guest starring roles in such television shows as Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,ù NYPD Blue,ù and ER.ù In 2002, he starred in the movie, The Emperor's Club,ù opposite Kevin Kline in a role which started to generate notice among his peers. Soon after he co-starred in a string of films such as The Girl Next Doorù with Elisha Cuthbert, Imaginary Heroesù with Sigourney Weaver and Lords of Dogtownù with Heath Ledger. He was last seen on the big screen in the lead role of Johnny Truelove in Nick Cassavetes' motion picture, Alpha Dog,ù where he starred alongside such fellow A-list talent as Sharon Stone, Bruce Willis and Justin Timberlake. He has just finished production on the major motion picture Speed Racerù for the Wachowski Brothers. The film, based on the animated series about a young race car driver, is expected to be released in the spring of 2008 and will also star Susan Sarandon and Christina Ricci. In January, Emile was honored at the 19th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival with the Rising Star Award. Emile is in good company as the award has been previously given to Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel and Terrence Howard, among others. Emile has the looks of a leading man and a career that is soaring to new heights. Young Hollywood believes this talented young man does indeed have an Oscar in his future!
