One of the biggest nights in entertainment, MTV’s annual Video Music Awards, just announced their 2012 nominees this morning, and we absolutely can’t wait to see what happens on Thursday, September 6!
Los Angeles’s Staples Center is going to be abuzz that night with the freshest and newest artists as well as industry legends and heavyweights.
Leading the pack with five nominations each are colleagues, friends, and frequent collaborators Drake (hip-hop’s new maven) and Rihanna (already one of pop’s biggest and brightest queens).
Some of Drake’s Moon Man nominations include: Video of the Year, Best Male Video, and Best Video Direction for his hit “Take Care”, which coincidentally features RiRi.
Rihanna is nominated for Video of the Year, Best Female Video, and Best Pop Video, all for her mega-hit “We Found Love”, which features DJ superstar Calvin Harris, who is nominated for his own VMA for his hit “Feels So Close”.
In true RiRi fashion, she took to Twitter to announce her excitement to her fans (aka the “Rihanna Navy”) about her nominations: “I'm proud of my Navi!!!! #WeBadTheyMad #thuglife #ThatRihannaReignjustwontletup #VMAS”
Since music is obviously at the foreground of this awards show, the night will include some mega musical numbers and performances. Although many more performers are going to be announced as the event draws closer to its September 6 air date, the first two performers announced will be R&B songstress and VMA favorite, Alicia Keys, and the new boy band on the block and kings of the young pop scene, One Direction.
1D is also nominated for their first two Moon Men, including Best Pop Video and Best New Artist, all for their anthem of the year, “What Makes You Beautiful”.
Other big artists of the year, like Katy Perry (second-most nominated with 4 VMA nods), Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, and Beyoncé are nominated for multiple awards for the night.
Other young’uns nominated for Moon Men include Selena Gomez – her first VMA nom ever, for “Love You Like a Love Song” – and Demi Lovato for Best Video with a Message for “Skyscraper”.
We absolutely can’t wait to see who wins, who performs, and what other crazy antics go on this at this year’s celebration! What are you looking forward to the most for the 2012 MTV VMAs?
