We Give a Damn is a new campaign spearheaded by the divine Cyndi Lauper asking straight people who want to see equal rights for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. Celebs like Jason, Anna Paquin, Kelly & Sharon Ozzbourne, Kim Kardashian, plus many more are all down with the cause.

It also seems so DAMN obvious; equal rights means just that, being equal. They don't call it voting and "female ballots," for example. It's just voting, regardless of gender. Females have only been able to vote in the U.S. since 1920, by the way. Progress!

Can you guess who voted on their right to vote, then? A congress comprised entirely of men.

My point being that sometimes the majority has to do what is right, not whatever they can get away with because they have the numbers to run things.

We Give a Damn is calling on all you heteros out there to show strength in numbers. This is actually something people have to become actively involved with, no matter how obvious or self-evident the issue of equality may appear to be. In fact, I think that's a big part of the problem. Progressive people underestimate how pervasive intolerance is in this country. It takes leadership to effect positive change and show people that something ingrained in our culture is fundamentally wrong. I don't mean to preach, but can I get an Amen?
