Director Edgar Wright Itching to Bring Avangers Founder, Ant-Man, to the Big Screen

It has been said that size isn’t important, but rather it is what you do with it that counts. For Marvel’s upcoming film Ant-Man, this statement could not be more accurate. Although a production date has yet to be set in stone, the anticipation surrounding Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the beloved comic continues to grow.

At this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, everyone was expecting for Wright to announce the release date of Ant-Man, but instead he surprised everyone by screening a test reel of the awaited movie! After that, rumors concerning the film broke out. One thing, however, is for certain: after the crowd’s enthusiastic response to the reel, the film will definitely be coming out in the next couple of years.

Ant-Man may not be the conventional superhero, and Wright is definitely not a conventional filmmaker, but that is why there is so much buzz surrounding this film.

Ant-Man is based on the Marvel hero Hank Pym, a scientist who devises a way to change his size. With his handy-dandy helmet, he is able to control armies of ants (pretty cool, right?). Not only that, but Pym was also a founder of The Avengers. So, Ant-Man might be a little different, but then again so is Wright -- After making cult classics such as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgram Vs. The World, it looks as though he is almost ready to tackle this insect-wielding scientist. He has already finished the script along with Joe Cornish, so all he needs now is the green light to start filming.

In his previous films, Wright displays witty humor and creatively-told narratives. He is able to blend comedy and action seamlessly, which is a quality that many filmmakers have yet to master. So, if you have any reservations concerning this project, don’t. This film may not be the typical superhero flick, but it will be special.

Wright begins shooting the film The World’s End with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost this fall, but cross your fingers that his next project will be the long-awaited Ant-Man!
