Cults are just all over TV this year! Perhaps TV shows are forming one giant cult? “Law & Order” producer Dick Wolf and Someone to Watch Over Me director Howard Franklin are currently working on a new TV show entitled “The Church” for NBC, which is about (go ahead and take a wild guess) a cult! The series will follow a family who discover that their seemingly normal church may actually be a cult. Peter Jankowski and Danielle Gelber will help executive produce the series, and Wolf and Franklin will write the pilot script.
Wolf has been quite busy lately, not only with his latest series, “Chicago Fire”, but with other unique projects. He and “Friday Night Lights” producer David Hudgins are adapting “Injustice” for NBC, and he is also working on an untitled project for USA Network.
The show has already begun to garner controversy, particularly from the Christian community. Of course, many TV shows feature churches and religion in them -- “American Horror Story: Asylum”, which just premiered last night, takes place in a Catholic home for the criminally insane. Wolf has never been one to back away from controversy; he has already earned a lot of it for his flagship series. However, it is too soon to tell how controversial the show will actually be.
Does “The Church” sound like a series that you would want to watch?
