Demi Lovato is strong.
The former Disney Channel star has done a lot of growing up in the last year. After rehab, Demi is back and better than ever. This week marks the release of her much buzzed about third studio album, Unbroken. The first single, "Skyscraper," debuted at number ten on the Billboard 100 -- Demi's first Top Ten hit. The song is deeply personal and influenced by her recent struggles.
Earlier this year, while touring with the Jonas Brothers, Demi hit one of their back-up dancers. Shortly after, Demi went into rehab and publicly apologized for the incident. It was later revealed that Demi went into rehab for bulimia and self-injury, and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Post-rehab has been a time of change for Demi. She is no longer a part of her Disney Channel show, "Sonny With A Chance" (now re-titled, "So Random!"). Instead, she has concentrated on her music, and being a positive role model for young girls.
Demi has partnered with Seventeen magazine and The Jed Foundation to spread the message that "Love Is Louder Than The Pressure To Be Perfect." Inspired by the campaign, Demi even tattooed the words, "Stay Strong" on her wrists as a reminder of what she has been through. While performing her first live show in almost a year, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, Demi told the crowd, “There are so many beautiful girls in this audience that don’t know that they’re beautiful, and they are.”
Demi has had a successful musical career in the past. Her first two albums, the Gold Certified Don't Forget and follow-up Here We Go Again, were assertive pop-rock inspired albums. Her latest effort, the aptly titled, Unbroken, is an R&B-infused album with personal lyrics and big name collaborations -- Jason Derulo, Iyaz, Dev, Missy Elliott, and Timbaland. On "Skyscraper," Demi sings: "Go on and try to tear me down / I will be rising from the ground like a skyscraper." These lyrics truly showcase her growth as an artist, and the personal honesty she is bringing to her music.
Celebrities and fans alike are rooting for Demi's latest album. "Good Luck Demi" and "Unbroken" have been trending topics on Twitter for most of the week, and some big name stars have been Tweeting their support. David Archuleta, whom Demi toured with in the past, wished her well. Paris Hilton, Adam Lambert, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez, and Ashley Greene are a few of the other celebrities wishing success for Demi's latest album.
There is more to Demi Lovato than a smiling Disney star. She is an inspiration to young women for her strength, honesty, and her amazing talent. Demi Lovato is far from broken.
