Last year, 19-year old Demi Lovato canceled her tour with the Jonas Brothers to take time for herself and her family to deal with emotional and physical issues that she had been struggling through. She checked herself into Timberline Knolls rehab facility for self-harm, eating, and bipolar disorders. Lovato calls that time of her life “the darkest” and is extremely appreciative and thankful for her fans’ support throughout the tough time.
The "Skyscraper" singer decided to return to the rehab center, but this time as an inspirational speaker to the other girls in the facility suffering through similar issues.
She sent out various tweets regarding her visit:
“Wow what an inspiring day...Many tears were shed and many memories were brought back at Timberline Knolls today.”
“Today I went back to the treatment center I went to last year, to speak to the beautiful women fighting their inner demons.. Was so honored...To be able to share my story and let them know that it gets easier. Life is beautiful...You are worthy of it.”
“Please say a prayer for all of those struggling with eating disorders, self harm, mood disorders, and substance abuse.”
This is not the only time Lovato opened up about her struggles recently; in an honest and insightful interview for the January issue of Glamour magazine, she discussed her love life, cutting scars, and tattoos about staying strong and living happily with what her life has brought her.
Lovato is filled with inspirational advice and strives to act as an inspiring figure to all young girls going through anything similar that she did. She revealed that the meaning of her hit song “Skyscraper” lyrics are about a heart never truly being fixed -- the first song that she produced after her treatment.
Her third and latest album Unbroken was released on September 20 and was greatly inspired by her struggles and courageous healing in the past year.
