Usually, when someone has a birthday, it is they who are on the receving end of gifts; not often does someone mark a birthday by giving something to others. But then again, David Bowie rarely plays by the rules.
Not only does the legendary musician turn 66 today, but he’s marking the occasion with a marvelous gift to his fans – new music!
In case you hadn’t noticed, our lives have been decidedly Bowie-less for the last decade. While other artists have emerged on the music scene claiming to be “avant-garde” and trying to offer something new and provocative to the mix, surely the Thin White Duke has been sitting back and smirking, shaking his head at these amateurs! Time to arise from this self-imposed hiatus and show the kiddies what being innovative truly looks (and sounds) like!
Thus Bowie has just announced the impending release of his 24th studio album, The Next Day (his first in 10 years), along with a new single AND music video entitled “Where Are We Now?”. This revelation is made all the more sweeter by the fact that most of us had assumed that Bowie was done with the music biz, having hung up the space suit and glitter for good and even refusing an offer to perform at the London Olympics last summer. But you can’t keep a true artist down – the fire and desire to create will always burn within!
Check out the simple yet haunting new song and video below, and let us know if you think Bowie is back!
The Next Day drops in March.
