Somewhere, Adrianne Palicki is making the McKayla Maroney face.
And I don’t blame her! How many times must this Amazonian carrot be dangled before us?? Fool me once, shame on you… fool me twice, thrice, fourthice, and you’ve become the Boy Who Cried Wolf!
Well, looks like The CW is the latest network to tease us with the possibility of a new Wonder Woman series. However, this one is taking a different tack – yes, the tried and true prequel/origin story. Looks like the network wants to give Wonder Woman the ol’ “Smallville” treatment, focusing on WW’s teenage years before becoming the butt-kicking superheroine. However, unlike Supes, WW didn’t grow up on a rural farm… or even an urban one. She grew up on Paradise Island, an Atlantis-type society made up of only womenfolk, the daughter of a goddess.
But apparently the See-Dubs has different ideas. According to the casting breakdown (yes, they are already putting out casting calls), the lead character in question will be a gal named “Iris” (huh?) who has been raised in an almost Sparta-like community and moves to the “big city” and fights for justice and stuff. A delightful fish-out-of-water story! Okay, BUT, if she has already moved away from home and started fighting crime… then she’s already Wonder Woman, no? How is this an origin story? I am so confused.
Hopefully, this will become clearer in time. At any rate, I’m still bitter that NBC cancelled their ACTUAL Wonder Woman series.
