Normally, the days leading up to the much anticipated Comic-Con event have fans twiddling their thumbs and staring at countdown clocks... However Lucasfilm Ltd., Nerdist Industries, and Octagon have teamed up to present anxious fans with a cure!
Starting July 7 through Wednesday, July 11, the first-ever "Course of the Force" Olympic Torch-style Lightsaber relay is taking place! Beginning at the Santa Monica pier and traveling up the coast to the San Diego Comic-Con, participants take turns in quarter-mile markers handing off the official Hasbro Ultimate FX Course of the Force lightsaber to the next runner as they begin their leg of the journey (in full Star Wars costume). Each day, the event will bring its festivities to a different pier/city along the way.
What could be better than running along the coast with a lightsaber decked out in full Star Wars gear? Following each day's relay, Course of the Force will also feature a “Conival”, a carnival-type event with Star Wars-themed parties, contests, and live Nerdist shows for fans to enjoy. The cost to run the sacred lightsaber up the coast runs at $500 per person, but it goes to a great cause! Making "Course of the Force" even more enticing, 100% of its proceeds go to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, with the event expecting to generate at least 1,000 wishes! The Course of the Force relay not only attracts dedicated Star Wars fans (relays start at 7am!) but also supports an awesome charity and gives Comic-Con fanatics a chance to take their minds off the build-up of waiting for Comic-Con to finally open its doors July 11th. Course of the Force even has celebrity runners, including Tyler Posey from MTV's "Teen Wolf", Drew Carey, Michael Rosenbaum, Adrianne Curry, and more!
Check out the recap of Day One, below, and keep up with all the subsequent highlights from the relay at Nerdist's YouTube channel, www.Starwars.com, or www.CourseoftheForce.com.
