The highly-anticipated 2012 Country Music Television awards aired last night and surpassed all of our expectations. The show not only focused on the past year of country music but also pulled from current news with a comical intro of special appearances by TV personalities and both presidential candidates endorsing their choices for hosts at this year’s awards. In the end, Toby Keith and Kristen Bell co-hosted the awards at the Bridgestone arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
The show did not fall short of star power, with outstanding performances by Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley, and a one-of-a-kind performance by Willie Nelson, Jamie Johnson, Zac Brown Band, Toby Keith, and Darius Rucker satisfied our love for country music and made for a fantastic show. And there’s no forgetting all the funny moments, whether it was Carrie Underwood’s husband Mike Fisher hugging Brad Paisley before hugging her, or Kellie Pickler motor-boating the camera before announcing the performance of Little Big Town, there’s no denying the show was extremely entertaining.
Now lets talk winners! Carrie Underwood took home her third Video of the Year award, this time for her new single “Good Girl” and left us with a smoking hot performance of the single as well. Underwood also took the award for Collaborative Video of the Year for “Remind Me”, which she recorded with Brad Paisley. Female Video of the Year went to Miranda Lambert for her song “Over You”, who also gave us a performance with her super group, the Pistol Annies. Luke Bryan took home the award for Male Video of the Year with his single “I Don’t Want This Night to End”. Duo Video of the Year went to Thompson Squared for their song “I Got You”, but don’t worry, Lady Antebellum wasn’t forgotten -- the group took home the award for Group Video of the Year for their song “We Own the Night”. Newcomer Scotty McCreery, whom you may remember from Season 10 of "American Idol", recieved the USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year award for his song “The Trouble With Girls”. And Jason Aldean earned his first CMT award for CMT Performance of the Year for his hit “Tattoos on This Town”, thanking CMT for still playing music videos. The award show wrapped up with a spectacular performance by Rascal Flatts and surprise guest Journey, leaving us eager to see who will be the big winners of country music in 2013!
