CNN Hopping On The Reality TV Train

CNN, the famous 24-hour news network, is about to update its image. After hitting its lowest primetime ratings in 20 years, the network has decided to introduce a new type of show to its regularly scheduled programming: reality shows.

Already planning to have a reality show that will feature globe-trotting foodie Anthony Bourdain, CNN has been meeting with Hollywood talent agencies to hear ideas for new shows. They have also been meeting with producers who have worked on reality shows for Bravo, the Discovery Channel, and the History Channel.

But don’t expect to see any “Jersey Shore” or “Real Housewives” type shows pop up on the network, though. CNN wants to keep their reality shows classy rather than trashy. The network is after shows similar to Bourdain’s Travel Channel hit “No Reservations” and ABC’s “The View.”

Speaking of “The View”, one of the shows being considered is a late-night talk show that is said to be similar to “The View” and Fox News’s “The Five” (although more likely to reflect the banter of “The View”). Furthermore, CNN is looking for hosts to be outside of the cable news world, looking to Bourdain as the prototype (and if you have ever watched “No Reservations”, then you know that Bourdain is quite the eccentric host).

For now, the Bourdain show is the only one confirmed at this time, and it will air in early 2013.
