Citizen Cope: One Man Army

This past week I took a trip to the mid-west to visit my family in Ohio. For a hard working city boy like me, getting the chance to unwind and relax is priceless.

If there were a soundtrack to perfectly accommodate this experience, it would be Citizen Cope.

The one man band is actually Clarence Greenwood; singer-songwriter, keyboardist, guitarist, DJ and producer.

Hailing from Memphis, this homespun throwback is sort of like an acoustic Kid Rock. While you might not recognize the name immediately, you've heard the laid back songs that make up the bulk of Citizen Cane's arsenal.

There's the whimsical Sideways, which Santana picked up for his Shaman album, which of course sold like five zillion copies. The song was also featured in the movie The Fountain with Hugh Jackman.

His own version of Sideways was also used in television and film soundtracks, while another single off his debut album, Son's Gonna Rise, got picked up for a Pontiac commercial. In fact every song from the CD has been licensed numerous times.

His latest effort is called Every Waking Moment and it's awesome.

Videos for Back Together and Friendly Fire can be seen on YouTube; the album is in stores everywhere.

Meanwhile, and this is the most exciting part, he's on tour this summer! He's doing the Rothbury, City Stages, Jubilee Jam and Mile High Music Festivals, the Virgin Mobile Fest and more.

Cope is also headlining shows through the Southeast and back up to New England. Oh and plus! New York City is getting its largest Cope show ever - at Terminal 5 on June 26th.

For what's hot on the road this summer, check out his tour page for the full list of shows. It's like a vacation to the heartland for your ears.

Word.
