This summer, get into cherry-chocolate. Probably the most dramatic example of the cherry-chocolate trend is Ashlee Simpson, who went from light blonde locks to deep rich hues. It's a big change. Red compliments many skin tones and light eye colors stand out more in contrast to the deep tone.
The only issue with going to an all red hue is that they tend to fade. That's a little too daring for me personally, but there is a proliferation of cherry-chocolate accessories. I just bought a delicious cherry-chocolate bag (or murse: man-purse). The leather is soft and supple and the color goes with everything from black to baby blue and pink. I've also been eyeing some belts and watch straps -- ladies, I highly recommend a pair of lovely cherry-chocolate pumps. If I could get away with them, I'd buy some for myself. They add a splash of bold color to a simple ensemble and compliment a more daring frock with prints and patterns. For a slightly more permanent commitment to the color craze, like something you'll see every day, bring it into your home design. We all know that a really simple way to update your home decor is to change the accents. This deep, rich color works well in any room. Get some throw pillows or lampshades to spruce up the living room, replace picture frames in the bathroom, or re-finish the kitchen cabinets. Mixing finishes and countertops is a surefire way to avoid the common color mistake of matching everything. You can also mix it up by combining a more neutral finish on the main cabinetry with a cherry-chocolate finish on the island -- instantly adds depth and pulls the entire room together. Just don't over-do it. The idea here and the examples I've highlighted speak to the versatility of this new color crush, but it works best in moderation. A touch of bold, rich color goes a long way. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm suddenly craving a cherry-chocolate diet Dr. Pepper. --Wes
