Techies, get ready! For those who are over the tablets and smartphones, the annual Consumer Electronics Show, which is, scheduled for today (January 10) through Friday (January 13) in Las Vegas. Basically the Super Bowl of technology, the event often launches new products and showcases new electronic innovations and concepts. Categories range from automotive to computer and even fitness technology.
So what is everyone talking about?
Everyone is making a TV. The buzz is already starting about Google TV, with companies like Samsung and LG rumored to be supporting it. The platform of more television supporting the Internet seems to be next phase. There is a lot of speculation around an Apple TV, but Apple is notoriously absent from CES, choosing to promote their products on their own time. There is even talk of moving beyond 3D and into what is termed 4K -- basically higher resolution than HD.
Expect to see more of the notebook. Companies are looking to tweak the tablet to continue to make a light, faster, and more powerful version of a computer. It’s no telling how small and thin they will end up being.
Fitness Trends. Looks like Americans trying to be fit are big business, especially for the technology sector. Gone are the days where you need a paper log to remember your workout and progress. Expect to see a surge of products you can wear that act as calorie counters, take down your sleep patterns, and keep track of your health as you go.
Cars that let you do more than drive. Car will continue to do do more than get you from point A to point B. Apps on your phone connected to the car will allow more hands-free options and connectivity to your other electronics. Expect also to see more safety features. Avoiding those blind spots may get easier.
Some celebrities are expected to be in attendance tooting various companies they are involved with, including 50 Cent and Justin Bieber, LL Cool J, Wayne Brady, Jillian Michaels, and Snooki.
Rovi Corp already announced it created a tool that lets consumers convert their DVDs into digital files legally and for free. As always, expect to see some fun and sometimes useful gadgets.
