Celebs Look for Love the Best Way the Know How: Reality TV!

Hey, even celebrities are sometimes unlucky in love. If only they had a firm hand to guide them, to provide them viable options and opportunities to meet that one special person… and then film it for a national audience.

Enter “The Choice”, Fox’s new celebrity dating show debuting this summer, which aims to help lovelorn famous people find Mr. or Miss Right. And if you think this is just another reality show beauty contest where prospective dates are chosen based on their physical attributes rather than the content of their character, STOP RIGHT THERE, Negative Nellies! In fact, “The Choice” will be somewhat of a blend between “The Voice” and “The Dating Game” – with their backs to the contestants, the celebs will pose a series of questions to their potential love matches and make their choice before ever laying eyes on them! Cat Deeley, who already pulls hosting duties on “So You Think You Can Dance”, will be taking up the reins on this one as well.

And who, pray tell, are the love-seeking stars that will be put in the hot (spinning) seat? Lonesome luminaries include: Joe Jonas, Rob Kardashian, Carmen Electra, Sophie Monk, Dean Cain, Romeo, Rocco Dispirito, Rob Gronkowski, Tyson Beckford, and “Jersey Shore” boys Pauly D and The Situation.

Looking at this (partial) list, it occurs to me that this will be more of a game show on the part of the contestants rather than the stars actually making a serious attempt at finding love. It’s hard to believe ANY of the above-listed stars are actually hard-up for dates. I mean, come on, one of them is named ROMEO, for cryin’ out loud! And we all know Pauly and Sitch have absolutely no trouble finding someone to keep them warm on a night-to-night basis… So, “The Choice”, to me, smacks more of a Win A Date With X Celebrity Sweepstakes-type deal. But who knows? Maybe love will actually bloom from these match-ups! We like to stay optimistic.

The first of 6 episodes of “The Choice” will air on June 7 on Fox.
