Even though the economy wasn’t quite booming in 2011, stars pregnancies sure were. Many celebrity couples became first-time parents this year, while others continued to expand their families.
Natalie Portman and fiancé Benjamin Millepied, who met on the set of Black Swan, became parents for the first time when they welcomed their baby boy in June. They named him Aleph, which is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet and is also the number 1 in Hebrew. Earlier in the year, Portman told People that she was going to take a break from work after Aleph was born. "I'll be out of the public eye," she said, adding that she will figure out any future acting opportunity "as it comes."
Victoria and David Beckham aren’t rookies when it comes to having children, but they did become parents for the fourth time this year with their first daughter, Harper Seven. Having only one daughter in the Beckham brood, David said that he’ll be overprotective when it comes to his little girl dating: “She’s got three brothers that will take her, three brothers that will eat with her, and three brothers that will bring her back home, and a dad waiting for her.” Hopefully, Baby Spice will grow up to be just as posh as her mom.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon also joined the club of newbie parents in 2011 when their twins Moroccan and Monroe were born April 30, which was also the proud parents’ two-year anniversary. Moroccan was named after the top tier of Carey’s New York City apartment, which features Moroccan-inspired decor, and Monroe after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Carey. Mimi and Nick call the twins “Roc and Roe” for short, and as for now, Mariah says her family is complete.
Orlando Bloom and his wife, Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr, received the superior title of “mom” and “dad” earlier this year when their son Flynn was born. Miranda is not only a supermodel but is also a supermom as she proved she can balance motherhood with work by hitting the runway at the 2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show just months after giving birth. Talk about a body bounce back!
Kristin Davis followed in her “Sex and the City” character’s (Charlotte) footsteps in the decision to adopt. Despite not having a partner, Davis proceeded with domestic adoption and welcomed a baby girl named Gemma Rose Davis earlier in the year. The 46-year-old new mom told People: "Having this wish come true is even more gratifying than I ever had imagined. I feel so blessed.”
Other noteworthy couples that welcomed bundles of joy this year include: Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott; Kate Hudson & Matt Bellamy; Pink & Carey Hart; Alicia Silverstone & Christopher Jarecki; Alyssa Milano & David Bugliari; Denise Richards; and Tia Mowry & Cory Hardrict.
Best wishes to all the new parents!
