American Idol alum Katharine McPhee at the Macy's Herald Square Holiday Window Unveiling and Celebration inspired a thought. Whether you're hanging with the family, hitting up a formal function or want to look cute at the office party, "˜tis the season for great holiday hair! Yes, I actually think things like that. I have news bulletins in my head, too. BREAKING: Need coffee.

This year, why not change it all up and go crazy like Kat! Work a brand new look, or sass up your current style. I've recruited Carlos Vega, who is Patrick Melville Salon's Styling Director, to get tips from the pros.

"Curls are great for the holidays," Carlos enthuses. "They're a must!"

Do keep in mind that heating can damage, so use proper products to avoid scorching your strands.

"Use hot rollers or a curling iron to curl hair all over in no specific pattern," Carlos suggests. "It will give your hair great bounce. Shake the curls out with your hands and add an accessory (headband; a pin or two) with some bling."

To go more upscale, he says, "Keep the curls from the first look but don't use any accessories. Part hair on the side and either tuck one side behind your ear or tie it back to the side."

Naturally, you want to shine at your office get together, so look the part! To get a really sassy, youthful "˜do like Kat, go for 80's teased-out tresses. "I also like a 40's hair set," Carlos adds. "Anything glamorous will work."
