Celeb Fitness: Fist-Pumping "Jersey Shore" Workout

You don’t have to be a Jersey native to find your inner Guido (or Guidette).

While the lowest common denominator in America has found something they can relate to on TV, the rest of us can have a little fun at the expense of the phenomenon. Most would hardly want to emulate their booze-swilling, tail-chasing, street-fighting antics, but we could all benefit from a little GTL (gym, tanning, laundry). A new workout inspired by the show aims to get you guns like Pauly D, a 6-pack like The Situation, and a svelte waist like JWoWW.

The New York Sports Club hosts a class that plays up the sheer obscenity of it all by encouraging members to role play.

"We infuse the class with as much color from the show as we can," trainer Jennifer Hunter recently told the Daily News. "I bumped my hair as high as it would go," to emulate the show’s breakout star, Snooki. She even takes on the moniker JWoWW in her sessions. In class, her students do the same by assuming nicknames similar to their favorite personality.

The gym is such a serious place, why not make it fun? I say, GO ON GIRL AND MAKE THAT MONEY. While the attitude is airy, don’t expect Jennifer’s class to be light on effort. The 45-minute sessions are nothing to laugh at.

A typical warm-up includes "The Jersey Strut" (jogging in place) and "Beat the floor" (DJ Pauly D's signature dance move). More advanced moves include “Tan Jovi” (running to a Bon Jovi concert) and “The Hurler,” which moves members into a hunched-over position.

"[The ‘Jersey Shore’ workout] targets not only your abdominals, front, and back, but also the cardio-respiratory system, endurance, and stamina," Jennifer says. "We only stop to transition to the next interval."

Get your friggin’ fitness on!
