Casting News: Comedy Stars Bringing More Laughs Our Way!

Here’s some exciting news for all of you comedy nerds out there: There will be some truly hilarious films hitting theaters in the next few years. “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet, who plays dad and part-time clown Cam on the show, is set to join the cast of Universal comedy, Identity Theft. Directed by Seth Gordon, Stonestreet is set to play Big Chuck, a real estate broker who clashes with Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy’s identity stealing characters. The cast also includes John Cho, Amanda Peet, and Jon Favreau.

In other comedy casting news, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Mindy Kaling, Michael Cera, Emma Watson, and Rihanna have been added to the already large cast of the apocalyptic comedy, The End of the World. The film, which takes place during the apocalypse at a party at James Franco’s house, will be Seth Rogen’s directing debut, and currently has Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Aziz Anzari, Jonah Hill, and, of course, James Franco, all set to appear in the film as themselves, and the addition of the new actors will also appear as themselves. While this movie looks completely insane, I am betting that the pure madness of it will pay off in a good way, like the absurd plot of The Pineapple Express.

And finally, Woody Allen’s next film will be set in his beloved New York, and will include “Lost” alum Michael Emerson. (The film’s cast currently includes Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Bradley Cooper, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, and Bobby Cannavale). I am personally intrigued to see Emerson go back to his lesser-known comedic roots (which he revealed in our recent Studio interview) and to see Allen return to his geographical roots.

Which one of these comedies are you the most excited to see?
