Carly Rae Jepsen is on a mission to prove she’s not just another (extremely omnipresent) one-hit-wonder, and it looks as though Adam Young, AKA Owl City, is happy to assist her in this endeavor.
“Good Time” is the lead single off Owl City’s upcoming fourth Studio album, The Midsummer Station, and apparently he must be hoping he can ride the buzz surrounding Carly Rae and her viral earworm into the same mainstream success he enjoyed three years ago with his debut track “Fireflies”.
Now, whenever two artists come together for a collabo, it’s inevitable that one of the artists ends up conforming more to the sound of the other. “Good Times” is obviously no exception, but what’s interesting is, it seems to be Adam that is conforming to Carly Rae’s upbeat, teen-poppy sound… even though this single is from his album! Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Owl City, by definition, is rather experimental and thrives in defying categorization. However, given the distinct synthpop vibe that has come to be associated with Owl City, “Good Times” will most likely, at the end of the day, come to be identified as a Carly jam.
Either way, though, it’s an upbeat, fun summer tune, and Adam and Carly Rae’s voices blend together beautifully, the perfect compliment to one another. Incidentally, these two would make an ridiculously cute couple. They are the same age, you know. Just saying.
