Canadians Rule the MuchMusic Video Awards!

Often called the Canadian version of MTV’s Video Music Awards, the MuchMusic Video Awards took place last night in Toronto to celebrate this year’s best of pop culture and music.

Co-hosted this year by the party rock duo RedFoo and SkyBlu of LMFAO, the MMVAs were filled with, you guessed it, tons and tons of awards, celebs, fashion, and, of course, musical performances!

Katy Perry, decked out in huge and colorful butterfly wings, took to the stage for one of the first performances for her latest single “Wide Awake”, the music video for which was just recently released!

Aside from her stellar MMVA performance, Perry also took home a pair of awards, including International Video of the Year for her song “Last Friday Night (TGIF)” and the fan-voted Ur Fave International Artist or Group, where she beat out some of this year’s other pop powerhouses One Direction, Rihanna, and Adele.

Flo Rida performed his latest single “Wild Ones” to the packed house in Toronto, and Kelly Clarkson, who donned her now blonde tresses, performed a stunning medley of her songs “Dark Side” and “Stronger”.

Among the celebrities to help present awards to winners were singers Selena Gomez and Cody Simpson, and actors Darren Criss and Shenae Grimes. The big winners of the whole night though were, appropriately enough, Canadians Justin Bieber and one of this year’s breakout stars Carly Rae Jepsen. The Biebs won Ur Fave Artist or Group and International Video of the Year by a Canadian for his smash single “Boyfriend”. Justin later closed the show with a performance of “All Around the World” and “Boyfriend”, off of his latest album, Believe, which will be released tomorrow (June 19).

Jepsen garnered three major awards of the night: Most Online Streamed Video, Ur Fave Video of the Year, and Video of the Year, all for the hugely popular internet-happy hit “Call Me Maybe”, which she later performed for the Toronto MMVA crowd.

It was surely a night for the books, and we can’t wait to see what goes down at next year’s MMVAs! What were some of your favorite moments from last night’s award show?
