'Bridesmaids' Director Paul Feig Attached to Helm Another Female-Centric Comedy... for Disney

In August of last year, Disney announced plans to develop a family comedy by the name of  Wish List, with Reese Witherspoon attached to star. Now, Disney has an update on the film: Paul Feig, the director of last year’s raunchy and wildly successful comedy Bridesmaids, is in negotiations to direct the film.

Written by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Kung Fu Panda 2) Wish List tells the story of a successful career woman (Witherspoon) whose ideal life is turned upside down when all the wishes she made as a child are suddenly granted. The film is a bit of a different turn for Feig, who is primarily known not only for Bridesmaids but for the short-lived TV series "Freaks and Geeks". In addition to Wish List, Feig is attached to another Universal rom-com titled The Better Woman. Amy Sherman (“Gilmore Girls”) is penning the script, which centers on a successful young executive who is abruptly dumped by her boyfriend for an older woman. She befriends the older woman to learn why her ex left her and decides to reinvent herself along the way. Ironically, there was a period where Witherspoon was in talks to play the lead role as well but she has since left the project.

Wish List has actually been a project that has been around since 2001, when it was originally written to have a lead male character. The future film finally found a home with Disney, and is scheduled to be released in 2013. Although the premise of Wish List sounds rather cliché, with Feig as director it could turn out to be hilarious. Feig’s work has consistently remained strong over the years, and Bridesmaids was one of the best films of 2011.

What do you think? Does Wish List sound like a film you will want to check out?
