BMW has a brand new toy." The 2007 3-Series convertible now comes with a three-piece electronically-operated retractable hard-top " a first for BMW.Because the roof features a larger rear glass windscreen and side windows, visibility has improved by 38 per cent compared to the outgoing model. The folding hardtop takes only 22 seconds to open and close, plenty of time at the right red light.Although the folding top has been anticipated for some time, it isn't the most exciting feature on the new machine." BMW's new convertible features new SunReflective leather upholstery capable of reflecting part of infra-red radiation back into atmosphere. According to BMW, this specially treated leather stays 20 degrees cooler than an ordinary leather cover.Like its coupe counterpart, the cabriolet will be offered in both 328i and 335i editions in North America, and 325i and 335i guises in Europe. BMW says the 306 horsepower 335i model will reach 62 mph in 5.8 seconds. The BMW 325i Convertible will sport BMW's new 170hp engine, which will provide the car with 9.2 seconds of zero to 62 mph acceleration." A nice statistic when you factor in 42.2mpg on the combined cycle. The BMW 330i Convertible will come with a much more powrful 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, producing 272hp of power output and accelerating the vehicle from zero to 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds, but at the cost of only 34.9mpg on the combined cycle.Europeans will also receive a special variation: diesel." The BMW 330d Convertible's diesel motor delivers peak torque of 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) and accelerates the car from zero to 62 mph in 7.1 seconds, featuring 40.9mpg.
