Betty White Honored by the Whos of Whoville!

The holiday season is amongst us, and what better way to celebrate by checking out Grinchmas at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The family-friendly celebration rang in the Who-liday season by honoring Betty White with the Who-Manitarian of the Year Award. The actress, comedian, and author is a long-time animal activist who has dedicated her life to animal welfare. She was recently named Chairman of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association, in which she served on the board since 1974 and as Zoo Commissioner for eight years, while also serving as President Emeritus of Morris Animal Foundation. White’s tireless efforts were presented by Max, the Grinch's loveable canine sidekick, who will be played by local rescue dogs throughout the nightly run of the Grinchmas show.

"I really appreciate this award, and I appreciate all of you beautiful people around me," White, dressed in aqua slacks and a flowery blouse, said to the assembled dignitaries, which included 100 first- and third-graders from ICEF (Inner City Educational Foundation) Vista Charter School in Culver City. "And I especially appreciate beautiful Max. And the lovely animals we see here today are all rescues, which is the good news, believe me."

Throughout the event, a tree will tower 60 feet above the center of a snow-covered winter wonderland and will be lit in nightly ceremonies that will feature a colorfully costumed Whoville choir. The Grinch, Max, and the Whoville Whos will also be on hand (and paw) to meet fans and take memorable holiday photos, while families gather to enjoy traditional winter fun, romping together in a playground of fresh, real snow.

Celebrities from all over will join the festivities and celebrate Grinchmas by reading passages from Dr. Seuss's heart-warming tale. More than 30 celebrity readers are confirmed to participate in this year's program, including Nia Vardalos, Allison Sweeney, Jillian Michaels, Blair Underwood, Yvette Nicole Brown, Tia Mowry-Hardict, Diego Boneta, Chris Gorham, Camryn Manheim, and Dot Marie Jones, among others.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a classic tale based on the book by the famous Dr. Seuss that follows the Christmas-loving people from the land of Whoville and the nasty creature (The Grinch) that lives just outside of town who hates Christmas and plots to steal it away from the Whos. It’s a Christmas classic and I love watching it every year.

Grinchmas debuted this past weekend and will run daily from December 15 to 31. For more information, including updates on the Grinchmas celebrity readings, check out the Universal Studios website.
