Best Date Movies: Then & Now

Having a date night at home can be totally romantic, especially with the right movie to set the mood. In absolutely no particular order except that in which they occurred to me, here are some of the greatest date movies of all time!

Moonstruck (1987) - Cher at her very best. This is the romantic comedy for people who hate romantic comedies. Snap out of it!

Dirty Dancing (1987) - If this doesn't melt your butter, nothing will.

Jerry Maguire (1996) - This romantic comedy-slash-sports movie is full of clever funnies and loving moments to deliver some serious cuddle time.

La Femme Nikita (1991) - Girl power to the max, she's an assassin! Need I say more? Although this is a foreign film with subtitles there's also a Hollywood remake called Point of No Return with Bridgette Fonda that's sure to start a pillow fight.

Titanic (1997) - Probably the most successful date movie ever, with a blockbuster action sequence! Oh, right, that's the sad part. Still, awesome.

The Apartment (1960) - Every good list includes a few classics. See Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon as you've never seen them before. Young!

Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) - One of the hottest love scenes ever, after they try to kill each other.

The Wedding Singer (1998) - So funny the lovey-dovey part is almost like a ninja. Silent, but it gets you in the end.

Edward Scissorhands (1990) - Possibly the most touching Johnny Depp/Tim Burton creation ever.

Out of Sight (1998) - J.Lo and George Clooney deliver with a chemistry that could just catch your pants on fire.

Run Lola Run (1998) - Yes, another action movie that's really a romantic at heart. The story twists and turns to deliver an ending that will have you talking, if the soundtrack doesn't get you dancing first.

Back to the Future (1985) - A quasi love story between Marty and the Doc, I think but overall just a fun flick.

Donnie Darko (2001) - Girls melt for Jake Gyllenhaal, dudes love the twisted sci-fi storyline. Avoid the director's cut.

Before Sunrise/Before Sunset (1995/2004) - A first night together and the sequel ten years later; absolutely wonderful cinema.

Casablanca (1942) - A classic, you'll thank me. If you get bored, make out!

Some Like It Hot (1959) - Find out why Marilyn Monroe is still an icon. Even if the oldies format isn't your style, you won't be able to take your eyes off her.

Star Trek (2009) - Everybody grew up with some awareness of Captin Kirk and the Enterprise. The modern version is tight, slick and sexy.

Where the Wild Things Are' (Oct. 16 2009) Okay so this hasn't come out yet, but here's where you get out of the house for a change.

'New Moon' (Nov. 20 2009) - Because, duh. Obvious.
