The summer months are just as opportune a time to give back as the winter holidays… specifically, it’s the perfect time to help prepare kids in need for the upcoming school year. 14-year-old actress and recording artist Bella Thorne is teaming up with Staples and DoSomething.org to do just that through their National School Drive PSA.
DoSomething.org has been successful at harnessing teen passion into outlets for social change. The is the fifth time around that the Staples For Students national school supply drive is helping to supplement crucial school items that kids in need might be lacking (pencils, notebooks, etc.). The PSA is a great motivation to help the kids out by collecting school supplies and dropping them off at the nearest Staples store starting July 1 through September 15.
In addition to those donations, Staples is donating $125,000 this year. If you find yourself shopping at Staples without school supplies you’re willing to part with, you can also donate $1 or more at the register. The campaign kicked off in 2008 and has already raised more than $2 million dollars for hundreds of thousands of students.
Inspired? It’s easy to get even more involved -- you can request an Action Kit that will send tips your way on how to start a drive in your neighborhood. Text SUPPLIES to 38383 for more info. You can also raise a “virtual hand” by uploading info about the cause to your social media sites and Staples will donate $1 each time this is done, up to $10,000.
Check out Bella on the PSA below (following by her recent visit to the YH Studio)! She is currently starring on the Disney channel’s sitcom "Shake it Up!" and has also had roles on shows like "Wizards of Waverly Place", "Big Love", and "Entourage". Previous celebs involved have included Jordin Sparks, Ciara, Nikki Reed, and the cast of "Pretty Little Liars". Expect the PSA to start airing next month on TV as well as radio.
