Rapper and singer Azealia Banks is back with her new single and music video, “1991”! The third single off her hit EP of the same name, Azealia takes us on a throwback visual roller coaster. Directed by Justin Mitchell, “1991” is a sleek and simple ode to the '90s-style music videos we all know and love, evoking memories of En Vogue and "Express Yourself"-era Madonna. Taking a departure from the almost standard big budget music video, Azealia moves and grooves her way through the track with attitude to spare.
From high-waisted pants and crop tops, to Yoko Ono-style sunglasses and bold colors, Azealia salutes the 1990s culture that helped shape the 22-year-old artist. I also spy the singer rocking her new deep plum M.A.C special edition lipstick, which she will debut at this week's 4th annual Fashion's Night Out.
Azealia shot to super-stardom after her smash hit single, "212", and soon after released "Liquorice" and "Van Vogue." This Harlem native has proved that she is no shrinking violet, and her no-nonsense vibe had propelled her to the top-tier amongst not only female rap artists but hip-hop in general! She has been embraced by both American and British audiences alike, which just goes to show how her swagger has the ability to reach across oceans!
